He earned five starts as Pacific's stopper and saw time in nine games all season behind the plate. In Big West Conference play, Sylvester hit for Pacific's fifth-highest batting average with a .333 showing at the plate. Defensively, Jake recorded 30 putouts from behind the plate and allowed 15 stolen bases for a .971 fielding percentage. The freshman provided depth and options for the Tigers during the 2009 season.<b>High School:</b><br>Sylvester graduated from Livermore High School in 2008, earning three varsity letters in baseball alongside current teammate Brett Christopher. With the Cowboys, he was a three-time all-league selection in the East Bay Athletic League, was named the Boosters MVP twice and capped off his high school career as a Junior Olympic national champion. On the field, Jake went .340 at the plate with five home runs his senior year and recorded a .333 mark and three home runs as a junior. Academically, Sylvester was an Olympian scholarship recipient and earned the distinction of being President's Honor Roll all four years he was in high school.<b>Personal:</b><br>Jacob Sylvester was born in Livermore, Calif., and is the son of Ken and Tina Sylvester. He has one brother, Joe (18). When he's not playing baseball, Jacob enjoys playing the guitar, reading and writing. In his second year at Pacific, Jacob is a business administration major with hopes to either play in the major leagues or become a firefighter after his education.
